Harmony

The Deep Secret
or the answer is so simple

It is easy to see that a human being possesses two, main aspects:
the Lower and Higher Self. There are levels in between but these, two are the main ones.
Anything selfish, instincts-or-needs-and-wants based are within the scope of the Lower Self.
Anything to do with morals, selfishness or higher principles is where the Higher Self operates.
One has to ask himself what is his preference: to be ruled by his, Lower Self or by the Higher one?
The next questions are: Is what is natural and proper for animals, is also, proper for people?
What is better for humans: to succumb under the influence of the Lower or Higher Self? Is there the difference between people and animals at all?
Common sense tells us that the true, nature of a true, human being is to act through his, Higher Self.
Anyone believing that the animal nature in us should be our goal would only find contradiction to such believe in my writings and should decide whether to read on; for, I would never share such views.
I am being honest on my stand. I do not doubt for a moment that the true purpose of humans is to act humane and be human – and not as a two legged animal.
That means moving away from the animal nature to the higher one.
Anyone disagreeing with that is not too far from an animal, himself, only in a human form so to say.
I would like to outline the basic steps toward the Higher Self as I see them in the simplest terms.
They are:
1) Providing the background to substitute impulses of ego or subconscious, uncontrolled urges and thoughts with the clear background without them.
2) Achieving the state when one can receive the unpolluted and objective, without selfish emotions flow of information upon our mind.
3) Seeking the state of harmony and ultimate reality.
4) Finally, acting upon the received flow in accordance with its rules. i.e. succumbing to that state of harmony and truth, which is the reality. Anything else is a distortion of reality or a state of disbalance.
Let’s view the steps one by one and what leads to them.
The notion of “ego” that needs to be used dennotes, here, the selfish, prime wants and needs just a level above instincts.
An example: a need to be admired, to posses expensive jewelry, etc.
Such desires are purely selfish and bring nothing positive to anyone else.
The Higher Self, on the contrary, wants to enlightnen the person and help others sincerely and cares, truly cares of doing good, positive things.
We are, constantly, bombarded with impulses from our ego, instincts, selfish needs and wants, desires, conveniences, anything to benefit oneself by any means.
Any means may be ok for animals but not for people.
People are humane because of morals and only when follow them. Take morals or set of rules for fairness and decency away and people are not that different than animals, who have no higher morals. Yet, even many animals have rules how to act with each other, which they obey.
When two animals fight, most of the time, the victor would not finish off the defeated opponent when the latter shows the signs of submission. Once the territory is defended, the owner of the area stops the pursuit of the retreating party and would not chase the latter till the end of days. There are many more examples. The point is made.
Many animals may not have the concept of true morality but, still, have the sense of the innate rules.
Yet, some people break even that and act as total villains.
In that sense, such people fall into the category of below animals since have no rules at all, while posses all the means for comprehension. Anything goes with such crowd.
So far, we have established the fact that some people are capable of acting on the level of animals and even below that.
That, definitely, can’t be classified as a civilized, human behavior. Civilized behavior implies morals or sets of rules based on fairness. Acting in uncivilized manner is, then, not a truly human behavior. That is easy to see.
So morals are the central issue of who can’t be classified as a civilized human being and who is on a level of a savage, regardless of the level of education.
Absence of morals is what makes one savage and not how many books are read and exhibitions visited or even houses of worship attended. What is practiced in reality counts only and not trivial things.
Let’s continue with that.
Since morals are required for a human to be civilized, we must find a way to make them a part of us in the light of conflicting egotistical wants and needs.

We all have a conflict indeed. Our lower nature wants one thing and the morals or what accepts them: the Higher Self dictates the opposite.
What a conflict and a deep, really deep one indeed. Urges of convenience and temptations of profit by any means literally bombard us from within.
How can we do what is right even if recognize that truth, fairness, and “right” or morals exist?
Our Lower Self wants to be satisfied; it demands its food: the conveniences by any means.
Now, we would look into the actual way of achieving the state of being able to do what is right.
First, one must realize that it is extremely difficult fighting the lower nature, which seems has the mind of its own; while we don’t have much control over it.
Second, we must comprehend that only truth and realizations can give us the power to overcome the lower nature.
Truth and realization have such awesome power that, once they are accepted sincerely, they do the job of ruling the ego themselves. No need to struggle. Allow them to do the job; they know how. Succumb to truth and realization and they would fulfill you, literally, to the point you would have no space for anything else in where they make their home. You may continue having problems with other matters, but once truth and realization, pertaining to that particular matter set in, you are saved from the Lower Self or ego acting in that domain.
Eventually one replaces the other. If you have a bucket full of swamp water and you pour water there from the ocean, you would have the bucket of ocean water only once enough of it is poured there. The ocean water would spill the swamp water completely over the bucket. That would happen to each bucket where you substitute swamp water with the water from an ocean. The same holds true with a particular quality of a human character.
Once truth and realization find their way to our heart, they would displace the lower, egotistical qualities pertaining to that, specific issue or quality. For example, our ego pushes us to get what we don’t have if that is enticing to it i.e. steeling from the one who has that. If the truth and realization of the immorality of such act penetrates our heart, we would not steel even if the punishment for steeling is lifted. Truth and realization would stop us - not fear.
Fear is a conditional and temporal factor. Once fear is met with any greater factor, we would steel. A guarantee of not being punished can make fear disappear. While, once we know in our heart it is wrong to steel, we would not steel even if it is guaranteed that we would not get punished. Do you see the difference? Make sure you do.
Now, the question is what can help us see the truth and realize it fully? How can we see that when so many urges and rational explanations come to our head?
“This person has so much and I have little; therefore, I need the stuff more than him,” is a typical rationalization. It sounds logical to many people.
Rationalizations are tricky and confusing outbursts of the intelligence of our ego. Rationalizations can play such tricks on most intelligent people that the latter, often, succumb to them.
What can help us to see reality? Only truth; for, truth is the reality.
Anything else is the distortion of the former. Realizing truth makes it alive and a part of us. Realization makes accepting something so deeply that it becomes a part of us literally.
Of course, we have more power when something mighty is added to us and becomes a part of the sum or our total.
Do you see why? Even, mathematically, it is clear that anything that becomes a part of us makes our sum greater.
Why did I stress the word "heart" earlier? Because only what is deep in our heart and is felt by it becomes a real part of us. A purely logical understanding sets on the surface of the brain only and can be easily replaced by any, other logical explanation that our ego can provide.
“I need money more than that rich man,” is a typical logical explanation of ego. Logic based on ego’s rationalization is there indeed. "The man is rich and has more than I. Why can’t I have some of his money since need it more and he would not miss that, small difference anyway – he is rich after all. Plus, he probably got his money dishonestly. I even do some social justice by taking some money away from him."
Everything may seem logical here and the brain deals with that easily.
It is what we know deep in our heart is with us for real and is not subjected to displacements.
Rationalizations may be displaced by any, other stronger rationalization and are not permanent on the other hand.
An example. “Well, I should not steel after all. If I do, then, someone may steel from me when I get more money.”
Logic operates here, again, but that is not what is truly needed. This logic or rationalization is a form of fear and nothing else. Remove that fear and we are back to where started from. As you can see, such rationalizations come and go and our ego can give us thousands of them.
